Records, 1974-1990s, containing administrative files, grant applications, project planning grants, videotapes and slide presentations. The administrative files include conference and workshop proceedings, subject files, videotapes, mailing lists, and press releases pertaining to the work of the Foundation. The bulk of this collection contains the initial grant proposals that were withdrawn or rejected as unqualified as well as files on the projects that were funded by the Foundation. The latter files (called "planning grants") include applications, financial breakdowns for the Foundation's monies, project overviews, oral histories, and press releases for projects on women, Afro-Americans, Alabama history, Alabama folk and rural life, technology and education, and the role of the humanities in society. The applicants are equally diverse including county and local organizations, state universities, public libraries, museums, and churches. The videotapes and slide presentations focus on the humanities as well as Alabama history.

East Alabama Male College, sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was chartered in May 1856. Classes opened in 1859 in Auburn, Alabama, but the college closed during the Civil War.
